Fossil Fallacy

In his March 2005 Scientific American article "The Fossil Fallacy," Michael Shermer makes yet another cogent argument about evolution, summarized by this quote from Herbent Spencer:

Those who cavalierly reject the Theory of Evolution, as not adequately supported by facts, seem quite to forget that their own theory is supported by no facts at all.

Shermer argues that there is no single fact that "proves" evolution. Instead it is the overwhelming amount of evidence from diverse fields which points inexorably to evolution.

And therein lies the issue.....the main thrust in Kansas is over the redefining of science as an ongoing process of exploration....they are trying to remove the need for "observation" and "repetition" as important aspects of science. Unfortunately, Michael Shermer's article is exactly what these nuts in Kansas are holding up and agreeing with....since none of our ideas are adequately supported, we must be equal....ergo, teach both (or at least allow the schools to teach both so that we can run any teacher out of town who mentions evolution and won't teach what we want).
